Wilshire 5000 Index (symbol .wil5)
The Wilshire 5000 Index is also called the Total Market Index because it represents nearly the entire market. The index covers nearly every publicly traded company. However, it does exclude some very small companies.
You can purchase an ETF (exchange traded fund) that mirrors the Wilshire 5000 Index. It is not as popular an index as the S&P 500 or the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
